FAQs

  • Each film format has its own look and feel, and we choose based on the moment, the setting, and the story we want to tell.

    • 35mm Film
Small, versatile, and quick—perfect for capturing candid moments, movement, and the in-between memories that happen in a blink. Its signature grain adds a timeless, nostalgic character that feels personal and authentic.

    • 120 (Medium Format) Film
Known for its sharpness, detail, and beautiful depth. Medium format gives a more polished, editorial quality to portraits and key moments while still holding onto that warm, film texture. It’s ideal for romantic portraits, details, and sweeping ceremony shots.

    • Large Format Film
The pinnacle of film photography. Large format produces breathtaking images with incredible detail, tonal richness, and a painterly quality. It takes more time and care to shoot, but the results feel like fine art—perfect for once-in-a-lifetime portraits and heirloom images.

  • The Digital Package refers to all of your images coming in a digital form to be shared throughout social media. These images however are not high quality enough for prints or photo albums.

Check the FAQ over the print package to see how to get prints.

  • The Print Package allows you to choose prints from your gallery. This can be an 8×10in all of the way up to 40×50in. We print on beautiful archival paper and offer framing. We also have the unique option for a silver gelatin which is a print style dating back to the beginning of photography that will last as long as your love can.

  • Not at all—film is actually higher quality than digital in many ways. Film captures a richness, depth, and dynamic range that digital simply can’t replicate. The texture you sometimes see, known as “grain,” isn’t a flaw, it’s part of what gives film its timeless, organic character.

At Wedding Grain, our film images are clean, sharp, and true-to-life. They are not “grainy” or “dusty” like the filters you may see on Instagram unless we intentionally choose that aesthetic for a creative reason. Film gives us the flexibility to create both crisp, polished photographs and nostalgic, textured imagery depending on what fits the moment.

In short: film isn’t about imperfection, it’s about authenticity, beauty, and images that will feel just as timeless decades from now as they do today.

  • Film is a beautiful choice for a wedding, but it’s important to know why. Film offers a timeless, nostalgic quality that digital can’t quite match—its tones, depth, and texture feel like real life on paper. That said, the true authenticity of your photos doesn’t come from the film itself—it comes from you. No amount of grain or vintage styling can replace the emotion, connection, and story that you bring in front of the camera.

Film simply preserves those moments in a way that feels lasting and tangible, like an heirloom. If you want your wedding photos to feel both romantic and timeless—and to look just as beautiful decades from now—film is one of the best choices you can make.

  • There isn’t a right or wrong answer—it all depends on what you want your photos to feel like. Film has a timeless, nostalgic quality with rich tones and depth that many couples love for its artistry and heirloom feel. Digital is crisp, flexible, and great for speed, offering more images in a shorter amount of time.

What matters most is what’s important to you: Do you want fewer but more intentional, fine-art images on film? Or do you prefer the convenience and immediacy of digital? At Wedding Grain, we specialize in film because we believe in its beauty and permanence, but the “best” option is simply the one that aligns with your vision for your day.

Reminder, we do offer a digital photographer to come as backup!

  • Yes—your memories are absolutely safe with us. At Wedding Grain, we’ve been shooting on film for over a decade and have never lost a single roll of film. We treat every roll with extreme care from the moment it’s loaded into the camera until it’s developed and backed up.

In fact, film is incredibly reliable. Each roll is handled with a process we’ve refined over years to ensure nothing is left to chance. Your wedding day only happens once, and we take the responsibility of preserving it on film very seriously.

  • We’re proudly based in the Midwest, but our work takes us far beyond. Wedding Grain photographs weddings all across the United States—from coastal celebrations to mountain elopements to elegant city events.

Travel is a natural part of what we do, and we love bringing the magic of film photography to couples no matter where their story unfolds. Whether you’re planning a wedding close to home or a destination celebration, we’re happy to meet you there.

  • Definitely. Film is perfect for destination weddings—it captures the colors, light, and atmosphere of a location in a way that feels timeless and true to life.

  • Every wedding is unique, but most couples receive a beautifully curated gallery of images. Because film is more intentional, each frame is meaningful—no filler, just the best moments.

  • Film requires careful developing and scanning, so the process takes a bit longer than digital. Typically, couples receive their full gallery within 8–12 weeks, with sneak peeks shared sooner.

  • Yes. All film images are professionally developed and scanned at a high resolution, so you can easily view, download, and share them digitally while still having the beauty of film originals.
